About the trek
The Kareri lake is located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and is a formation of the melted water from the Mankiani Peak. The trek is considered to be one of the most thrilling experiences for trekkers. Mountains with alpine trees, gushing streams and lush green meadows surround it. This place is a home to beautiful and rare colorful orchards various Himalayan birds and animal species. Along the trail we also come across local gaddi’s and shepherds grazing their cattle. This lake originates from Mcleodganj and reaches kararei village.
Fitness Level
The altitudes of this trek are considerably high, however some parts are a little steep and need extensive walking. Hence it is recommended for trekkers to practice jogging or brisk walking for around 30 minutes, in order to complete the trek in time without feeling breathless. Basic stretching exercises and yoga is necessary for muscle comfort and ease of movement while carrying the backpack. Non-trekkers and beginners are not much recommended to fulfill their trekking desires through this one.

Day 01
McLeodganj – Kareri Village Camp

Post breakfast we begin our first trek of the tour with a walk to Kareri Village. The trail goes through dense alpine forests and remote villages. The trek initially starts with a slight descent for a few kilometers, which leads to climb till the Kareri base camp. This is our dinner and overnight destination.

Day 02
Kareri Village Camp – Lioti

The trek begins after a nice warm breakfast towards Lioti. This is our next camping site a beautiful lush green meadow. The trek runs through flowing river stream and boulders making it a delightful experience for trekkers

Day 03– Lioti – Kareri lake

Average time taken: 4-5 Hours
This is the most awaited days of the trek, which takes us to the desired destination, Kareri lake. The trek extends in the direction of Minkiani Peak and stroll across muddy and rocky pathways. Along side this route are dense forests on one side and huge mountain ranges on the other. The level of trek difficulty rises here with an increase on the climb steepness. Additionally its also becomes rough an rocky. Finally after almost 5 hours we arrive at the enthralling campsite and explore the surroundings around. From our tents we witness magnificent views of Minkiani Pass, Baleni Pass and the valley below.
Day 04- Kareri Lake – Ghera – McLeodganj – Delhi

Today is an easy trekking day starting by a downward route to Ghera. During this trail we can witness the transformation in topography with changing vegetation of flora. Its short path to reach Ghera, from where we travel to Mcleodganj in private vehicles.
